Israel and Jordan sign peace accord

On October 26, 1994, Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres and his Jordanian counterpart Abdelsalam al-Majali signed the Treaty of Peace Between the State of Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The treaty ended a state of war that had existed between the two nations since the Arab-Israeli War of 1948. In addition to other provisions, the accord established normal diplomatic relations, agreed upon borders, and shared water.
