Federal court assigns judges to Guantanamo cases

[JURIST] The US District Court for the District of Columbia [official website] Wednesday chose [resolution, PDF; press release, PDF] Judge Thomas Hogan [official profile] to preside over the habeas corpus appeals of Guantanamo Bay detainees seeking to challenge their detention in federal court under the Supreme Court's recent ruling [opinion, PDF; JURIST report] in Boumediene v. Bush. Hogan will rule on procedural issues common to all cases.

Also on Wednesday, the court designated Judge James Robertson to consider the bid of Guantanamo detainee Salim Hamdan [DOD materials; JURIST news archive] to stay his military commission trial [AP report] until the civil court determines its legality. AFP has more.
