Suicide bomb attack linked to ICJ barrier hearing - Israeli ministers
Bernard Hibbitts at 2/22/2004 02:33:09 PM

Two Israeli ministers immediately connected a Sunday suicide bombing which killed 8 people and wounded 59 on a Jerusalem bus to Monday's upcoming hearing at the International Court of Justice on the legality of the Israeli security barrier. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz told government colleagues in a briefing that the bomber was likely trying to show that the barrier was ineffective, while Health Minister Yosef Lapid said that the bombing showed opponents that a barrier was necessary, adding that the attack would not have happened if there were a barrier in Jerusalem itself. California AG balks at Schwarzenegger gay marriage directive
Bernard Hibbitts at 2/22/2004 01:37:55 PM

Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle quotes Lockyer, an elected Democrat, as saying that "The governor can direct the Highway Patrol. He can direct the next 'Terminator 4' movie if he chooses. But he can't direct the attorney general in the way he's attempted to do." Schwarzenegger's letter, he added, was "a statement designed for consumption at the Republican convention." The Chronicle has more.
