[JURIST] The National Assembly of South Africa has passed the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Bill [PDF]. Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula announced the approval of the legislation Friday, saying that great care had been taken in crafting it to ensure that it would prevent terrorist activities without sacrificing the constitutional and democratic rights of the South African people. The bill brings South Africa into compliance with UN Security Council resolutions like Resolution 1373 [PDF] which requires member-states to meet the requirements of the many international conventions against terrorist activities.
