War crimes tribunal convicts former Bosnian Serb leader
Chris Buell at 11:45 AM ET

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia Wednesday convicted a prominent former Bosnian Serb leader for charges of torture and deportation. Radislav Brdjanin, who was acquitted of genocide and extermination charges, received a 32-year sentence. During the Bosnian War, Brdjanin led the autonomous Serbian region of Krajina. The tribunal concluded that Brdjanin was the leader in the region, but it did not assign him personal liability for deaths there. During the conflict, more than 1,600 Muslims and Croats were murdered, and thousands of others were deported from the region. Read a summary of the court's judgment here. The full opinion is available here [PDF]. The ICTY has background on Brdjanin's case. AP has more.
