Protester arrests reach 1,500 at Republican National Convention

The New York Police Department has reported that arrests of protesters at the Republican National Convention in Manhattan have surpassed 1,500. Confrontations between protestors and police broke out near the World Trade Center site and outside the studios of Fox News Channel. New York police Commissioner Raymond Kelly praised officers for showing restraint despite provocation. A transcript of his press briefing is here. The NYPD has more information on events at the RNC.
