Ahmad Chalabi says charges against him have been dropped
Chris Buell at 11:21 AM ET

Iraqi politician and former Governing Council member Ahmad Chalabi (view a BBC News profile) said Wednesday a that an Iraqi judge has dropped counterfeiting charges against him and that charges against his nephew Salem Chalabi had been reduced to a summons. Chalabi, a US ally who has since fallen out of favor, had been charged with counterfeiting old Iraqi dinars after the currency was discovered in a raid on his home. He had previously been a strong contender to lead the Iraqi interim government. Chalabi's nephew has been leading preparations for the trial of Saddam Hussein. JURIST's Paper Chase has more on the charges against Ahmad Chalabi, who earlier Wednesday survived an assassination attempt when his motorcade was ambushed. Earlier Reuters has more.
