UN report: Sudan police sexually assaulting Darfur women
Brandon Smith at 2:24 PM

According to a UN report, police sent by the Sudanese government to restore security in the troubled Darfur region are sexually abusing and exploiting women. The report describes widespread fear of the Janjaweed militia that leaves the women too afraid to leave their camps to collect firewood; according to the report, the police collect the firewood in exchange for sexual favors. Sudan has sent 10,000 police and has almost two weeks to convince the UN Security Council that will seriously work towards improving conditions in Darfur or face unspecified sanctions. Reuters has the full story.
