Thatcher son arrested in connection with Equatorial Guinea coup plot

The son of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was arrested Wednesday by agents of South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority after a defendant in the trial of conspirators in a failed plot to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea testified that he had met him to negotiate an arms deal. Mark Thatcher was charged with contravening two sections of South Africa's Foreign Military Assistance Act, but was later released on bail. Lawyers for the government of Equatorial Guinea have said that they may initiate extradition proceedings against Thatcher. BBC News has more.South Africa's Mail & Guardian has local coverage here.
