New federal overtime regulations set to take effect Monday
Jeannie Shawl at 4:30 PM ET

New national overtime pay rules, designed in part to help stop "needless litigation" over who is entitled to overtime pay, will take effect Monday. The Fair Pay Initiative has received its share of criticism, with opponents saying that as many as 6 million workers will lose overtime eligibility under the new rules. The Department of Labor says that no more than 107,000 workers will lose eligibility, and that about 1.3 million will gain eligibility. The DOL has the new regulations; AP provides highlights. AP has more on the new rules. The liberal Economic Policy Institute has this briefing paper [PDF] on the new rules. The DOL has its own economic analysis [PDF].
