BREAKING NEWS ~ Assistant captain pleads guilty in ferry crash

AP is reporting that Assistant Capt. Richard Smith has pleaded guilty to lying to the Coast Guard about his medical history before last year's Staten Island Ferry crash that killed 11 commuters. Under Smith's plea agreement, he is also expected to plead guilty to 11 counts of seaman's manslaughter, acknowledging his misconduct and inattention to duty caused the death.
