Acquittal in Kazemi death appealed
Jeannie Shawl at 4:00 PM ET

Lawyers for the family of Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi have appealed an Iranian court verdict acquitting an intelligence agent charged with "semi-premeditated murder" in her death. Kazemi died while being detained in Iran for taking pictures of a student-led protest outside an Iranian prison. In appealing the verdict, the family's lawyers said they "expect the appeals court to invite Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi and Iran's Information Minister Ali Yunesi as witnesses," both of whom were not summoned to testify in the initial trial. AP has more. CBC News has background on Kazemi and the trial of the Iranian intelligence agent charged in her death.
