Three Americans arrested in Afghanistan for abusing captives
Chris Buell at 11:55 AM ET

Three Americans arrested in Afghanistan were acting on their own behalf in capturing and abusing eight captives in a private prison, Afghan officials said Thursday. One of the men was identified as Jonathan Idema, a former Green Beret who claims to have been fighting with Afghan militias. US officials sought to disclaim any relationship with Idema and said he had been posing as a member of the US military and government. Afghan Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jalali said the three men, along with four Afghans, were "rebels" whose actions were not supported by any legal authority. The seven were arrested on Monday. BBC News has more.
