Ninth Circuit overturns Idaho abortion law requiring parental consent
Chris Buell at 3:01 PM ET

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled Friday that an Idaho law requiring parental consent for abortions on minors was unconstitution because the medical necessity exception in the law was too narrow. In the unanimous decision, the three-judge panel wrote:
In regulating the performance of abortions on minors, Idaho has acted in pursuit of legitimate interests. The vehicle it has chosen to further those interests, however, fails to provide sufficient access to an abortion for minor women whose life or health necessitate one.
The full court opinion is available here. The Idaho statute at issue in the case can be found here. AP has more.
