Indonesia won't charge militant cleric in Bali bombings
Jeannie Shawl at 9:32 AM ET

Indonesian prosecutors said Wednesday that they will not charge militant cleric Abu Bakar Bashir in the 2002 Bali bombings after the constitutional court ruled last week that the country's new anti-terror law cannot be applied retroactively (see this previous report on JURIST's Paper Chase for more on the court ruling). Bashir will instead be charged with heading Jemaah Islamiyah, the terror group blamed for the Bali bombings, and other crimes, including last year's hotel bombing in Jakarta. AP has the full story. AFP has more.
