World Court to issue opinion on Israel barrier on July 9
Chris Buell at 10:25 AM ET

The International Court of Justice at The Hague announced Friday that on July 9 it will hand down its ruling on the legality of a barrier being constructed by Israel along its border with the West Bank. After a request by the UN General Assembly to issue an opinion, the Court heard arguments from various parties in February. Although holding no binding power, the Court's advisory opinion could be used by the UN to pressure Israel into changing course. The Court issued a press release to announce its upcoming ruling. The General Assembly's request to hear the case can be viewed here [PDF]. Reuters has more.
