Norway institutes nationwide ban on smoking

Norway's nationwide ban on smoking in restaurants and bars takes effect Tuesday, joining Ireland as the second nation to impose such a restriction. The ban has been implemented in order to protect people in the catering industry from the effects of second-hand smoke. Norway's Ministry of Health has this press release and BBC News has more. In a related story, the World Health Organization marked World No Tobacco Day 2004 by urging more countries to sign the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which requires countries to ban or restrict tobacco advertising, sponsorship and promotion.
