Judges who legalized gay marriage in Massachusetts under fire
Jeannie Shawl at 1:34 PM ET

State lawmakers in Massachusetts have renewed efforts to oust Supreme Judicial Court justices who signed the majority opinion that made same sex marriage legal in Massachusetts. Two proposals have been filed, one that would remove Chief Justice Margaret Marshall for violations of the Massachusetts code of judicial conduct [PDF], and one that would remove three associate justices, John Greaney, Roderick Ireland, and Judith Cowin, who joined Marshall's opinion in Goodridge v. Department of Public Health. The first proposal is sponsored by State Rep. Philip Travis, part of the Article 8 Alliance, and accuses Marshall of several instances of judicial misconduct, including attending two political events honoring gay and lesbian advocates, encouraging lawyers for gay and lesbian couples to bring the suit for the right to marry, and chasing media outlets to bring publicity to herself. Today's North Adams Transcript has the full story.
