France's first same-sex marriage performed by mayor

On Saturday in the southwestern French town of Begles, two men were wed by the town's mayor, Noel Mamere, in the first same-sex marriage in France. Mamere had been warned not to perform the ceremony by officials, and Interior Minister Dominique de Villepin said that the mayor will face penalties, including a suspension. Some have called Mamere's move a political stunt in view of this month's European Parliament elections. Reuters has more.
