Blair asks Bush to release British Guantanamo detainees
Brandon Smith at 10:51 PM ET

The UK Guardian newspaper reported Friday that Prime Minister Tony Blair has made a "direct request" to President Bush for the release of the remaining four British detainees from Guantanamo Bay. The court papers from which the request had been discovered also acknowledge a formal deference to legal action by the detainees' lawyers seeking a court order to compel Britain to formally demand their return. Prime Minister Blair has received criticism over his inaction regarding the four who are accused of terrorism and have been held for up to two and a half years.
