Settlement agreement reached in Muslim head scarf case

The US Department of Justice and an Oklahoma school district reached a six year settlement agreement Wednesday that allows an 11-year-old Muslim girl to wear her head scarf to school. Read the DOJ's press releasehere. The agreement, which still needs approval from the US District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, allows for the sixth grader to wear her head scarf to school and stipulates that the Muskogee Public School District change its dress code to allow for religious exceptions. The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division is currently involved in several cases that concern religious liberties in schools and in other contexts. AP has more.
