Oregon lawyer slams ill treatment while wrongly detained in connection with terror bombing
Jeannie Shawl at 11:13 AM ET

Brandon Mayfield, the Oregon attorney jailed in connection with the Madrid terrorist bombings who was cleared of all charges yesterday (see this previous report in JURIST's Paper Chase), has said that while in custody he was "often manacled and chained," threatened and was denied the opportunity to see his family. In a press conference late Monday, Mayfield also called his detention and the material witness proceeding "an abuse of the judicial process." Tuesday's Portland Tribune has more and Portland's KATU-TV News has recorded video of Mayfield's press conference. FindLaw has made the government's motion to dismiss the material witness proceeding against Mayfield available here.
