California Assembly approves Megan's Law reform
Bernard Hibbitts at 9:24 AM ET

San Jose Mercury News: "The [California] Assembly late Monday approved a sweeping bill that would dramatically increase Californians' access to information about sex offenders in the state, sending it to the Senate, where it could face strenuous opposition from key Democrats."
The bill, approved 72-2, would put online California's Megan's Law database of sex offenders. complete with photos, offense information, and home addresses. At the moment, the database is only available for consultation at police and sheriff's departments, or by phone, as described on the California Attorney General's website.
