Boston archbishop urges Catholic lawyers, judge to oppose gay marriage
Amit Patel at 10:44 AM ET

From the anchor desk... The leader of Boston's Roman Catholic Archdiocese, Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley, has asked Catholic lawyers and judges to oppose gay marriage saying the institutions of marriage and family are under assault. O'Malley did not give specifics as to what he expects the lawyers to do but did indicate that lawyers should use "their profession and their understanding of the law to defend marriage. They're in a better position than any of us to understand what needs to be done to correct a very complicated situation that the court has put us in." These statements come in the wake of the November Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling allowing same-sex couples to marry. Hillary Goodrich, a lead plaintiff in the case, responded by saying she does not understand how allowing same-sex marriages would contribute to the breakdown of the institution of marriage and family.
