Powell speech on Iraqi noncompliance with Resolution 1441

World Court order to stay US execution of Mexicans

The International Court of Justice at The Hague ruled Wednesday that the United States must "take all measures necessary" to ensure that three Mexican nations are not executed pending a final judgment of the Court in a case involving them and other Mexicans on death row in the United States. The US Sixth Circuit Court Of Appeals Wednesday affirmed in part a lower court injunction against a website for using a manufacturer's trademarks in its Internet domain names and metatags. Read PACCER v. TeleScan Technologies.

Unauthorized activity associated with Space Shuttle debris

As part of ongoing recovery efforts, NASA's Office of Inspector General posted an online form Tuesday inviting members of the public to report unauthorized and/or illegal activity associated with debris from the Columbia space shuttle, including theft, selling and trading.

On February 5, 1937, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, frustrated with the US Supreme Court's treatment of some of his economic reforms, proposed a plan to add judges to that and other federal courts whenever a sitting judge reached the age of seventy but declined to retire. Critics accused Roosevelt of indulging in autocracy and "court-packing.". Listen to Roosevelt's "fireside chat" on the proposal from March 9, 1937, and review the text of his address. Roosevelt eventually dropped the initiative, but was nonetheless able to fill seven vacancies on the Court over the next four years, achieving his goal indirectly.
