This is Joanne Charles with Tuesday's rulings from the federal courts. The 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals has denied American Indian activist Leonard Peltier a parole hearing. In 1975, Peltier was convicted for the killing of 2 FBI agents. Peltier and his supporters say he did not commit the crime, and is being held as a political prisoner. News4colorado.com has more.... US District Judge Joy Flowers Conti has ruled that 937 hand delivered absentee-ballots in Pennsylvania's Allegheny County must be set aside to be challenged. The ballots must be challenged no later than Thursday. Pennlive.com has more.... In Manhattan, US District Court Judge William H. Pauley has dismissed 2 class action suits against 10 investment banks. Pauley cited the doctrine of implied immunity. which exempts anti-competitive conduct in the securities arena if Congress has given a government agency the power to regulate the conduct. TelecomWeb has more.... The murder conviction of Luke Jones has been dismissed by US District Judge Alan Nevas. Connecticut's New Haven Register reports that prior to the dismissal, Luke Jones would have been the first person in Connecticut to face the federal death penalty.
