Peruvian Congress approves more charges against ex-President Fujimori
Bernard Hibbitts at 8:18 AM ET

From the anchor desk... The Peruvian Congress has added more charges to those it has already approved against ex-Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, now living in exile in Japan. The new charges, approved by the legislature Wednesday, allege that Fujimori trafficked arms to Colombian guerrillas, approved of torture, was responsible for the disappearance of political activists and mismanaged state funds. The approval of the charges means the end of any kind of legal immunity for Fujimori as a former President; the country's attorney-general is now free to lay formal charges and organize the case for trial. Peruvian authorities hope that either Fujimori will turn himmself over, or that Japan will accede to a request for extradition. Fujimori has said that he believes all charges against him to be politically motivated. To present his case from Tokyo he has developed his own website, online here. AP has more.
