Terror suspect sentenced to 20 years

This is Jen Pierson with Tuesday's national security and terrorism law news. A terror suspect accused of plotting to cut the cables of the Brooklyn Bridge was sentenced to 20 years today, according to the Associated Press. Iyman Faris, a Pakistani who became a US citizen in 1999, ultimately recommended that his co-conspirators not attempt the cable-cutting, but he had nonetheless pleaded guilty in May.... A new report issued by the General Accounting Office shows weaknesses in the government's approach to cutting off funds to terrorist organizations... A German 9/11 trial has taken a dramatic twist that has that county's media reporting the government's case against a terror suspect in Hamburg could collapse.
