Canada set to ban human cloning
Matt at 2:36 PM ET

From the anchor desk...The Toronto Globe and Mail reports that Canada's parliament is set to vote tonight on a controversial measure to ban human cloning. The article states that the bill is expected to pass narrowly. Bill C-13 is a measure aimed at regulating the use of human embryos in medical research, and also explicitly states that "no person shall knowingly create a human clone." Supporters, such as Abby Lippman, Professor of Epidemiology at McGill University, comment that the bill "sets out to protect and promote the health and well-being of both the children to be born and the women who will bear them." While critics like parliament member Paul Szabo are ethically opposed to research using human embryos.
