Pitt Law Announces Summer 2017 PLISF Scholarship Recipients

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh School of Law today announced the recipients of the Summer 2017 Pitt Legal Income Sharing Foundation (PLISF) scholarships.

Founded by Pitt Law students to assist their fellow students in pursuing public interest internships and careers, PLISF is committed to helping individuals and communities traditionally underserved by the legal profession. Throughout the year, PLISF fundraises to provide scholarships to students taking public interest internship positions. PLISF funds are distributed as scholarships given to Pitt Law students who will work in unpaid public interest summer jobs.

The PLISF named scholarship recipients are:

  • Kaeleen Kosmo received the Dean’s Scholarship for her work on issues of special concern to women;
  • Sam Esterman received the Amy Hay Award, which honors the late Honorable Amy Reynolds Hay, a magistrate judge in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.  The Amy Hay Award is granted to a student working in a public defender’s office;
  • Beth Leech received the Welsh White Award, which honors the late Professor Welsh White, a distinguished faculty member of the School of Law.  The Welsh White Award is granted to a student working in the criminal justice context.

  • Sarah Coblentz: U.S. Department of the Interior, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Katelyn Dorwart: Public Defender, Nashville, TN
  • Sam Easterman: Office of Conflict Counsel, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Allison Hall: U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Civil Enforcement, Washington D.C.
  • Moon Kerven: U.S. Attorney, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Michael Kolesin: Public Defender, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Kaeleen Kosmo: Women's Law Project, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Beth Leech: Public Defender, New Orleans, LA
