Martha Richards Conley, Pitt Law's First African American Female Graduate, Honored at Marjorie Matson Day Event
The Pitt Law Women’s Association hosted its annual Marjorie Matson Day event March 27 at the Harvard Yale Princeton Club in downtown Pittsburgh. This year, the honoree was Martha Richards Conley, Pitt Law's first African American female graduate and the first African American female lawyer admitted to practice in Allegheny County.
Marjorie Matson Day is PLWA's annual celebration of influential Pitt women in the law. The event serves to honor the achievements of Marjorie Matson, a Pitt alumna and a pioneer for women in the field of law. To commemorate Matson's accomplishments, PLWA gives out the Marjorie Matson Woman of the Year Award to a female graduate of Pitt Law. The Award recipient is someone who exemplifies the spirit of Ms. Matson's leadership and civic involvement.
