Each student will meet with a Career Counselor during their first year and is encouraged to meet with the counselor as often as needed. As a students begins to develop his or her legal career path they are able to work with an OPCD counselor whose background mirrors the student’s desired path. For example, OPCD Director, Lori McMaster, counsels students and alumni persuing careers in the private sector; Sarah Weissman oversees our on-campus recruiting and assists students seeking to work in the private sector; Rochelle McCain counsels students seeking a clerkship, or to work in the government or public interest sector; and Jamey Mentzer counsels students wishing to use their J.D. in a non-traditional role. These one-on-one meetings can address all aspects of career planning including: resume and cover letter drafting, application procedures, market and employer information, practice area and career exploration, interview preparation and professional development. Appointments are available in-person and via telephone.
Our office is open Monday- Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Additionally, OPCD has daily walk-in hours and hosts “Facetime” in the student lounge.
